PHUKET, RACHA ISLANDS, PHI PHI ISLANDS
Enjoy a day beach hopping along Phuket’s west coast, go fishing and snorkelling in the Racha Islands to the south, or take a trip to the world-famous Phi Phi Islands, setting for The Beach film starring Leonard DiCaprio.
It’s best to discover Phuket’s west coast between October and May. Following a pick-up up on the west coast, you can discover your choice of the best beaches in Phuket like Pansea – home of the world-famous Amanpuri resort – Surin, Kamala, Laemsing, Paradise, Freedom and more… Enjoy an early-morning fishing trip, grilled fish at a beach restaurant and a tour of the island’s top beach clubs.
Just south of Phuket, the Racha Islands (or Raya Islands) are an excellent destination for a diving and snorkelling day trip, and also an excellent spot to catch dolphinfish (mahi-mahi), tuna and other fish. Racha Yai reveals itself in spectacular fashion with a strip of fine white sand tucked into the long, U-shaped bay called Ao Tawan Tok, where the clear water is perfect for snorkelling. Ao Siam, the other large bay, is a pretty place, ideal for romantic walks and some peace and quiet.
Phi Phi Islands
The most popular destination around Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands are an absolutely stunning group of six islands and part of Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park. Located 25nm east of Phuket’s south coast, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le are the largest and best-known of the islands, which feature limestone mountains, cliffs, caves and white-sand beaches, and are home to an abundance of coral and marine life. Visit Monkey Beach and Pileh Lagoon, and snorkel at Loh Sama Bay. Phi Phi Le is also home to Viking Cave, where there is a thriving industry harvesting edible bird’s nests.
